KARACHI  - A representative delegation of the Defence Residents’ Society (DRS), led by its President Zafar Iqbal visited the Defence Housing Authority’s main office and held a meeting with administrator, Brig Aamer Raza Qureshi, to discuss their various problems.
Concerned DHA officials were also present on the occasion. The DHA administrator, in his opening remarks, reiterated that frequent interactions between the management and residents helped the authority to formulate a tangible development strategy for the area.
Raza informed the delegation that the DHA under a reinvigorated strategy was taking proactive and dynamic measures to augment and improve security situation. He said that there were 22 exit/entry points in DHA where electronic surveillance cameras had been installed.
He added that the first phase of the project had already been completed in which 120 modern electronic cameras were monitoring/surveillance of the area round the clock.
In the next phase another 250 more cameras would be installed in which imported DHA localities would be put under surveillance.
He informed the delegation that Third Party Evaluation and Root Cause Analysis of the stalled DHA Cogen Power & Desalination Plant had been successfully concluded which confirmed that there was no design issue with the plant and it could be made operational.
He said that necessary measures are being taken to ensure early repairs and rehabilitation of the Cogen plant to make it operational by the end of the year.
He said that the newly established DHA Suffa University would commence its first semester from September 2012 in the field of various engineering disciplines at undergraduate level.
He said that one way regime on Kh-e-Shamsheer and Kh-e-Mujahid had been ensured and that traffic was now smoothly commuting on those roads.
He added that poles and traffic signals on the two roads had been relocated accordingly and that commuters would soon get used to them. He said that all the road blockades including Kh-e-Hafiz in DHA had been removed and all the roads were clear.
The Administrator apprised the DRS team that DHA would take stern action against the offenders found guilty of wall chalking/grafting and those responsible would be fined. The Administrator said that the proposal of constructing 30 bus stands with shelters at various locations in DHA had been approved and would be soon implemented.
On a query from DRS delegation, the Administrator reiterated that the DHA and CBC bylaws on building regulation had been completely harmonized and that there was no ambiguity in them.
