ISLAMABAD – At least 14 illegal katchi abadis in the federal capital are posing security risk to the city residents, an intelligence report has revealed.

More than 70 thousands peoples are residing in the areas, whereas the government sets up eight out of these 14 illegal populations, which hold legal status.

Intelligence agencies and Islamabad police special branch submitted their reports to high officials regarding the potential security risk due to these slums. The increasing populations rate of the slums put question on the credibility of the concerned departments.

The intelligence agencies also pointed out that, the security of sensitive installations, including PM Secretariat on stake due to slum areas in their surroundings.

Earlier, the CDA had discussed the katchi abadis shifting project at different forums several times but failed to implement on it.

While, the CDA had set up a colony (Farish Town) for slum dwellers in Musharraf regime. Phase-I of the town was completed while the CDA stopped the construction work of Phase 11 as the allottees of Phase-I sold out their plots and returned to the slums.

The District Administration Authority told media that the matter is pertinent to the CDA, they said that the CDA failed to implement over the ordinance issued in former president Musharraf rule regarding the issue.  

According to reliable statistics eight such populations, including, France Colony, Paris colony, 100 quarters, 66 quarters, Hansa Colony, Charles Colony, Siad Purr Model Village and I-9 Christine colony are set up by the CDA and have legal status. Whereas, illegal the katchi abadis, including G-7, G-8, F-6, F-7, I-11, Banni Gala were set up due to the negligence of the concerned departments
