KARACHI - A heavy contingent of police used water cannon and batons to disperse workers of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) protesting outside the Karachi Press Club on Monday.
Hundreds of NCHD workers, employed on contract basis 10 years back, were demanding job regularisation. They claimed that the government promised but did not take any step for their job confirmation.
During the protest, when the workers tried to enter into the Red Zone, police used force to break up their protest and avoid them from reaching the Governor’s House. Water cannon, teargas shells and batons were indiscriminately used on the demonstrators.
Several protestors were also taken into custody.
