LAHORE - President Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to visit Lahore on Wednesday (tomorrow) to meet party men here.
This would be his third visit to the City since becoming the president, the last being in January 2011 when he visited the family of slain Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer to condole his death.
As per party sources, the president would stay in Lahore for three days and chair meetings of provincial party cadres. His sister, Dr Faryal Talpur would also accompany him and would stay longer than her brother who would leave for Islamabad in the evening of April 6 or the day after.   On April 4, the PPP co-chairman would meet PPP Punjab‘s Parliamentary Party at Governor House, most probably in the evening, as he would arrive from Larkana Wednesday afternoon after attending the central ceremony to be held on the night between April 3 and 4 regarding 33rd death anniversary of party founder, ZA Bhutto.
The schedule of his other meetings with different party organisations after April 4 is being finalised. Party’s organisational matters would be discussed at length according to PPP sources.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who is in London these days, is also expected to come back on Wednesday, the day president is scheduled to land in Lahore. It would be interesting to see if the chief minister goes to the airport to receive the president in case he (Shahbaz) arrives in the City before Mr Zardari. The protocol demands that chief minister must receive the president on his arrival, but the relationship between the two has deteriorated to such an extent that both would like to avoid each other.
