LAHORE - After parts of the country received rainfall of varying intensities on Wednesday a pleasant change was measured in the in the weather as mercury level decreased.
Overcast conditions, rains and continuous winds caused considerable decrease in the mercury level during day and nighttime.
Scattered rain-thunderstorm occurred in Khyber PK, upper Punjab, Islamabad and Kashmir and at isolated places in central Punjab and north Balochistan.
After the receding of prevailing rain giving system on Thursday, a fresh wave will enter Northern Balochistan on Friday, start affecting upper and central parts of the country on Saturday and persist till Sunday.
Recent rains are a good omen for wheat crop in Khyber PK. However, these are damaging crop in Punjab and Sindh.
Rains added to the woes of motorists and pedestrians as rainwater inundated on portion of roads and roadsides, disturbing normal vehicular movement on major intercity and intra city roads in the province.
In Lahore, the rains started in the wee hours and continued intermittently till late night. Rains and windy conditions lowered temperature during the day and at nighttime, bringing back chill in weather. Rains added to the woes of motorists and pedestrians as rainwater inundated on portions of roads.
Inundated rainwater on roadsides and slippers conditions caused frequent traffic jams on major arteries throughout the day. Several incidents of skidding of motorbikes were also reported from various parts of the city.
Maximum and minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded 27 degree Celsius and 16 C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 51 per cent.
According to the experts, trough of westerly wave is prevailing over Kashmir and adjoining areas and likely to move east-northeastwards during next 06-12 hours.
Local meteorological department has forecast mainly dry weather for most parts of the country during the next couple of days.
However rain-thunderstorm is expected at scattered places in Kashmir and at isolate places in Malakand, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday night.
On Wednesday, Cherat received 44 mm rain, Kohat 20 mm, Risalpur and Peshawar 19 mm each, Saidusharif 17 mm, Malamjabba 16 mm, Parachinar and Lower Dir 15 mm each, Garidupatta 12 mm, Murree 10 mm, Jehlum, Noorpurthal and Kakul 09 mm each, Jhang 08 mm, Mangla and Islamabad 07 mm each, Muzaffarabad 06 mm, Rawalpindi, Balakot and Dir 05 mm each, Toba Tek Singh 04 mm and Quetta, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Lahore and Chakwal 03 mm each.
