Rawalpindi - The residents of Jhand, a suburb of Attock, have been living under great state of fear because of armed dacoit gang that is operating in the area and looting people round-the-clock with impunity. People are scared from travelling on Jhamat Road as the robbers gang is operating in the area. Police were not entertaining the crime victims in police station.

The gang had also snatched Rs 6 million from a postmaster at Pindighaib and had shot dead the postmaster upon showing resistance, a well placed source in Attock police revealed to The Nation on Thursday.  Moreover, the dacoit gang had set up looting stage on Jhamat Road and stopped several commuters on gunpoint and looted cash, mobile phones and other valuables from them. After committing the crime, the dacoits fled from the scene, source added.

He said that police station Jhand officials were not taking action against the gang despite several complaints lodged by victims. Those who have been deprived of cash, mobile phones and other valuables included driver Javed, Farooq Numberdar, Tahir Ayub and two soldiers of Pakistan Army Arshad Mehmood and Muhammad Siddique.

According to source, the dacoit gang intercepted a solider of Pakistan Army Arshad Mehmood on gunpoint and snatched cash, mobile phone from him. The robbers also tortured the man, source said. PS Jhand first refused to register FIR on complaint of the victim but later allegedly registered the case on intervention of director of a spy agency. However, not a single accused has been arrested so far. Source also revealed that the police also failed in tracing the accused, which killed postmaster in a dacoity bid. Despite several attempts, DSP Jhand and SHO PS Jhand could not be contacted for their comments. The locals appealed RPO Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja to visit Attock and hold an open katcheri so that the locals could lodge their complaints with him.
