PFF urged to bar culprit from contesting elections

ISLAMABAD - Model Town Football Club president Rana Tanveer Javed, who is also presidential candidate for the Islamabad Football Association (IFA), has urged the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) appeal committee to reject Dr Fazal Rehman nomination papers as he was awarded punishment after found involved in financial embezzlements.
Talking to The Nation, Tanveer said that according to PFF General Council meeting, it was clearly mentioned that the persons, who were awarded punishments, were not eligible to contest elections. “I am surprised to watch the email send by the election convener IFA on Thursday in which he accepted Dr Fazal’s nomination papers as presidential candidate. The PFF had reprimanded Dr Fazal in September 2009 for financial maltreatments and was awarded sentence of five years and a fine of Rs 50,000. Dr Fazal filed an appeal with the PFF appeal committee on October 7, 2009, and the committee gave final verdict on June 19, 2010, in which they found Dr Fazal culprit, but his punishment was reduced and it was decided in the PFF General Council meeting held in Islamabad on November 19, 2014.”
“But according to election rules, a person who was awarded punishment, is not eligible to contest elections on any post, therefore, I request the PFF appeal committee to reject Dr Fazal's nomination papers and disqualify him and bar him from contesting the IFA elections. I hope justice will be done and rules will be followed in true letter and spirit,” Tanveer concluded.
