Islamabad - Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has made accessible a lot of public places for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under its measures to provide facilities for them.

Around 20 schools, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Federal Government Services Hospital (FGSH) (Poly Clinic), public parks, food street park, markets, convention centre, airport, railways and most of office buildings have been made accessible for the said persons in capital.

Official sources on Thursday said a significant work in this regard is also being done as directorate general of special education has published design manual and guidelines for the accessibility and the Accessibility Code of Pakistan to create barrier free environment for disabled persons and disseminated the same to all concerned departments.

They said the government also plans facilities at each bus station of under-construction Metro Buss project for persons with disabilities including elevators and lifts facilities are being provided at every entry/exit point for PWDs to give direct access of each bus station.

They will also be provided level boarding/alighting to and from the bus (without involving any steps). Each bus will have one space for PWDs with wheel chair and four designated (reserved) seats for other PWDs.
