SHEIKHUPURA - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid a brief visit to the city on Thursday where he inaugurated the newly-constructed cattle market completed at a cost of Rs390 million.
On the occasion, addressing a gathering mostly of farmers and government officials, the CM said that it was an ideal market in the province equipped with all necessary facilities like cattle sheds, boarding and lodging facilities for the customers, fodder shops and various others amenities.
“Similar model cattle market will also be constructed in other districts of the province as well,” he informed. Shahbaz claimed that the present government was striving hard to raise living standard and build capacity of the farming community as the government considered it as backbone of the national economy. The Punjab CM informed that the government had raised the support price of wheat to benefit of the growers at large, adding that the price of paddy crop would also be increased as it was the major crop of the district.
Shahbaz Sharif claimed that the PML-N government had made the country self-sufficient in wheat unlike his predecessor who had to import the commodity. The Punjab CM said that due to better facilities being provided to the farmers, the wheat crop this year would be more than satisfactory.
He reiterated his government’s resolve bring in green revolution in the country through the development of farmers and growers. Tight security measures were adopted for the occasion while the entry of the common man to venue was made impossible.
GRASS-SELLER KILLED: An orphan youth was shot dead by three influential landlords in village Pakhyala in the remit of Narang Police on Thursday. Eighteen-year-old Irfan used to sell grass after cutting from fields. He was cutting grass in a field owned by landlord Anser. In the meantime the landlord along with his three other companions arrived there and witnessed Irfan cutting grass. After an exchanged hot word, the landlord shot the youth dead. The police are looking into the mater.
