ISLAMABAD - In a major move the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has decided to show itself as an independent Opposition in senate and has also decided to issue showcause notices to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Awami National Party (ANP) over going against the alliance rule.
The meeting of the Steering Committee held in Islamabad last day which was attended by many senior leaders of the opposition including; former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former Deputy Chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri also agreed to hold the meeting of PDM’s top leadership ahead of Eid ul Fitr.
According to the sources within PDM all the eight parties except ANP and PPP agreed upon the point to move forward the movement against Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) even if PPP and ANP opted to part ways with PDM. The sources further revealed that all the parties of PDM agreed upon the point that both ANP and PPP to be a single chance and will be expelled from the alliance.
It must be noted that ANP and PPP were not invited to the meeting of the Steering Committee of PDM held on Friday at the residence of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi here in Federal Capital.
It must be noted that the CEC meeting of the PPP will take place at Bilawal House Karachi on April 5.
The meeting will be specially attended by former President Asif Ali Zardari. The CEC will mull over PDM’s decision over resignations from assemblies.
The PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has directed all PPP parliamentarians to attend the meeting in person or through a video link.
The PPP in a PDM meeting held on March 16 had shown “reservations” over linking the resignations with the march and had sought time to hold consultations within its Central Executive Committee (CEC) before informing the PDM of its decision.
