KARACHI (APP) Unfancied Afsar Ali of KPT surprised Pakistans top golfers Shabbir Iqbal and Muhammad Munir to clinch the DHA Independence Day Cup Golf Championship at Defence Authority Golf Club on Sunday. Afsar carded an aggregate of 217 to lead a-pack-40-golfers to claim the glittering trophy and handsome cash prize of Rs 154,000. Ansar Mahmood of Navy and Waheed Baloch of Karachi Golf Club (KGC) were joint runners-up with total of 219 while Amjad Yousuf (KGC) and Muhammad Siddique secured joint third spot with score of 222. Shabbir Iqbal, who won back-to-back title of Chief of Naval Staff Golf Championship and Byco Sindh Open could not finish among the top five. Hameed of Islamabad won the seniors professional event with score of 77. Shaukat Ali was runner-up with score of 79 and Ghani Khan of ASCC was third with score of 79. Sufian Rasheed of Dreamworld Golf Club won the amateur gross event with score of 232. This was his second win after winning the Sindh Open amateur crown at Arabian Sea Country last Sunday. Asadullah Khan (DHA) won the net event with total of 226. Kaz Uyo Area won the ladies event with score of 41 and Shirin Khan runner-up with score of 46. Sindh IT Minister Raza Haroon distributed the prizes and trophies among the winners. He announced a grant of Rs one million for DHA Golf Club. Administrator Brig Khalid Tirmizi and Secretary DHA Golf Club Brig (retd) Hasan Rafi were also present on the occasion.
