Punjab police engaged in relief activities for flood victims

LAHOE - On the instruction of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, various special rescue and relief teams of Punjab Police were engaged in the relief activities of flood-affectees with the local administration in the DG Khan Division and Mianwali District. It was informed in a meeting, presided over by the Inspector General of Police Tariq Saleem Dogar here on Monday. The meeting reviewed the efforts of Punjab Police being made in connection with relief operation in the flood-affected districts of the province. The meeting was informed that seven boats and 160 life jackets of Punjab Police were already being used in the relief operation at D.G Khan Division; while another special rescue and relief team compromising the senior police officers and one hundred trained Jawans of Police Punjab, equipped with two boats, ambulances and two hundred life jackets has also reached to D.G Khan. The meeting was further informed that in Mianwali District, the police rescue teams equipped with boats and life jackets were also providing full assistance to the district for the relief work of transportation of flood-marooned people. Addressing the meeting, the IGP directed the field police officers of flood-affected areas to extend maximum cooperation to the district administration for the purpose of relief operation. All available resources at command should be utilized on war-footings for shifting of flood affectees to the safer places, be concluded. Kaira lauds PMs relief efforts for flood victims Punjab Minister for Finance and Planning & Development Tanveer Ashraf Kaira has said Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has activated the cabinet and all relevant departments to provide immediate relief to flood affectees. While talking to a delegation of MPAs at his office here on Monday, the Minister said that Prime Minister himself was supervising the whole relief and rehabilitation work which showed his great concern and commitment to overcome this natural disaster. He said that federal government was also taking concrete steps for the rehabilitation of flood victims, and hoped that they would return back to their homes very soon like the affectees of Malakand division who were re-settled within record time after completion of the military operation against terrorists. Kaira said that announcement of flood relief fund by the Prime Minister was a timely decision to collect donations for rehabilitation of the affectees. He said the ministers would also visit the flood affected areas to supervise the relief and rehabilitation work.
