LAHORE - The Government College University is going to open its intermediate (first year) admissions from today (August 3) which will remain open till Wednesday. GCU Registrar Prof Anjum Nisar said that no admission form would be entertained after due date while the first merit list would be displayed on August 15. He said that GCUs last year minimum merit for admission in FSc Pre-engineering was 972 marks, Pre-medical 961 marks, Intermediate Computer Sciences (ICS) 901 marks, FSc General Science 820 marks, Intermediate in Commerce (ICom) 857 marks while admissions for Intermediate in Arts were closed at 806. Prof Nisar said that GCU this year was also offering admissions on the basis of Hafiz-e-Quran, Fine Arts, Overseas Pakistanis, Disability, Sports, Kinship, Minorities and Co-curricular activities including Debates (English, Urdu and Punjabi), Drama, Music, Rovers Club, Qiraat and Naat. He said that sports seats were being offered in 18 games including Athletics, Squash, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Basketball, Cricket, Gymnastic, Boxing, Weightlifting, Bodybuilding, Wrestling, Football, Swimming, Hockey, Volleyball and Handball. The Registrar said that trials for admissions in co-curricular and sports would be held on August 12 to August 16. Meanwhile, Government College University Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khaleequr Rehman felicitated the students who have secured the top positions among boys and girls in Matriculation Examinations 2011. He stated it was the first landmark in their long journey to a prosperous life. The VC advised the position-holders to work with diligence and perseverance while applying their mind and heart in their studies. He cautioned them refrain from unhealthy and unproductive activities so that they can put Pakistan on path leading to the bright and prosperous future. He called on the students to grow up to become the torch-bearers of enlightenment, creativity and objective belt of mind. Meanwhile, the Punjab University has extended the last date for registration of private candidates who want to appear in BA/BSc Annual Examination 2012 till August 25, 2012. Now the candidates can submit their registration forms and fee Rs 2,350 till August 25, 2012. Candidates, who had passed Intermediate (FA/FSc/equivalent) Annual Examination 2010 are eligible for registration while candidates passing Intermediate Exam in Supplementary Examination 2010, would have to attach attested photocopy of their failed result card of Annual Exam 2010. The registration forms can be obtained from Reception Centre of PU New Campus and nominated branches of Habib Bank on depositing Rs 15.
