PML-N’s disunity

Reports in media suggest that Senior Adviser to CM Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa is planning to quit the PML-N and is even willing to part with the post of Senator. Alongside dissuading him from leaving, the PML-N has also said words to the effect that arguments are not unnatural within big parties and would be settled. As the season of elections has set in, it is not uncommon for the activists and leaders to shift loyalties. Granted this is a common feature of Pakistan’s political culture, it is always worrying for a party to see its members or worse a popular figure drift away to the rival camp. Most of our parties are fighting a struggle to win peoples’ trust as they gear up for elections. Definitely each one of them will try to avoid internal schisms since the public also would not think highly of a party that cannot maintain discipline in its ranks.
As the reports indicate, the differences between Mr Khosa and his party appear to be of personal nature. Squabbles should be avoided in larger interest of the party itself as well as the country. As a party once led by Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the PML-N ought to stay committed to its manifesto while keeping itself strong and united.
