LAHORE - Punjab government will not allow any increase in the price of atta. This was decided in a meeting presided over by Chief Secretary Punjab Muhammad Javed Aslam. Provincial Food Minister Bilal Yasin, Secretary Food, Secretary Law and Director Food were also present on the occasion. The Chief Secretary said that price of atta will be maintained at any cost and 10kg atta bag will be available for Rs.315/- in Ramazan bazaars under Ramazan Package while 20 kg atta bag will be sold for Rs.670/- in the open market. He said that stern action will be taken against the elements involved in unjustified increase in the atta price.

He said that Food Department Punjab has 41 lac metric ton wheat in its reserves. He said that supply of wheat to flour mills was started on October 8 last year and this process can be started earlier this year if needed. He said that in order to stabilise prices of atta in Punjab, four lac metric ton wheat is being supplied to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Passco reserves so that wheat reserves in Punjab should remain intact to meet the requirements.
