SHO among two dead in Peshawar attack

PESHAWAR - Station House Officer (SHO) Dawoodzai Police Station was gunned down along with his guard when assailants sprayed volley of bullets on his police mobile at Haryana Road here late on Thursday night.
Police sources said attackers riding on motorbikes targeted SHO Amir Sultan’s police mobile at Haryana Road when he was on routine patrolling with his gunman. The firing resulted in death of SHO Sultan and his gunman. They were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar where they succumbed to their injuries.
Soon after the incident, police cordoned off the area and started a search operation to arrest the target killers.  The funeral prayer of both SHO and driver was offered in Peshawar which was attended by IG police, chief capital city police officer and other high ranking cops.
It merits mentioning here that despite repeated incidents of target killing, police and law enforcement agencies have so far been unable to apprehend any accused and after committing crime target killers easily manage to escape. Two former IB inspectors have been killed in targeted killing incidents in recent past.
On July 08 Mujahid Khan, a former assistant director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), was attacked near his house in the provincial capital. The attackers managed to escape. A search operation was launched in the area but nobody was arrested.
Afterwards, Muhammad Arif, a former director of the IB, was sitting at a shrine near his residence when motorcyclists shot him dead before Iftar in Qissa Khawani area.
Similarly, sub-inspector Khan Raziq Police Station and SHO Mirajan of Hayatabad Police Station were also targeted by unidentified killers in July.
