SIALKOT-Twenty-two villages of Pasrur tehsil were inundated due to flood in the Nullah Dek after the new spell of rains in Sialkot region.

Likewise, there was low-level flood in River Chenab at Head Marala near Sialkot as the floodwater soured up to 111,216 cusecs. The water is continuously souring up in River Chenab. The water level was also rising in River Jammu-Tavi with 7,004 cusecs near Head Marala-Sialkot.

The standing paddy, fodder and other seasonal crops on hundreds of acres of the fields were inundated and badly affected, as the flood water splashed over the banks of flooded Naullah Dek in Pasrur tehsil here.

Pasrur tehsil’s 22 villages including Dariya Nangal, Badiana, Chahoor, Chak Radha, Sokan Wind, Seehowal, Eispur, Shehzada, Wyne, Dhool Bajwa, Ooncha Pahaarang, Roopowali, Kaallowali, Umaara, Kheerey, Jabbokey, Jhaatokey and Tanbu Ghalib Shah were inundated.

District Coordination Officer Dr Asif Tufail said that a big flow of 26,000 cusecs water passed through the Nullah Dek after the fresh current inundating the paddy, fodder and other seasonal crops on hundreds of acres of fields. He said that the floodwater was now receding in these villages and fields, as the flow of water was dropped to 9,000 cusecs from 26,000 cusecs in Nullah Dek near village Chahoor-Pasrur.

He added that the flood situation was totally under control there. The traffic remained suspended on main Sialkot-Pasrur Road due to the flood as the road remained under two to three feet high water.

Meanwhile, widespread the torrential lashed the Sialkot region. According to the Sialkot MET office officials, it rained 91.7 mm in Sialkot. The rain began very early in this morning, which remained continued for the whole day intermittently. It remained dark with the loud thunder of the clouds. Reportedly, all the low-lying areas in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur, Badiana, Chawinda and surrounding areas remained inundated paralyzing all the civic and social activities.

Later, Punjab Secretary Irrigation Capt (Rtd) Saif Anjum visited the flood-hit areas in Sialkot, Head Marala, Daska and Pasrur here. Flanked by other district officers, he reviewed the flood relief activities, flood disasters, damages, loss of properties, crops, flood preventive and flood-fighting measures taken by the Sialkot district administration to cope with the prevailing flood situation.

YOUTH DROWNS, SNAKE KILLS OTHER: A youth drowned while his friend was saved by the local people from drowning in a nullah near Sabzpeer, Pasrur tehsil. Ilyas (17) and Akmal (16) were on their motorcycle when they slipped and fell into the flooded nullah. Ilyas drowned while the local people saved Akmal.

On the other side, A local youth namely Ajay Kumar (15) died of snake bite in village Rawal Kukkar near Head Marala. He was passing through the local fields, when a snake bit him, due to which he died before reaching the local hospital there.

TWO HELD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two notorious human traffickers.

It arrested accused Sheikh Javaid Murad from Sialkot and accused Babu Shafi from Narowal. Divisional Deputy Director Khalid Anees said that the accused had been running illegal business of sending the innocent people abroad especially to USA, UK, Spain, Belgium, Turkey, Greece, European, African , Middle East countries and Gulf States illegally. He added that FIA has sent the accused behind bars after registering separate cases.
