BAHAWALPUR-The Victim Response Officers have resolved as many as 50,000 cases pertaining to minor crimes against persons and property through arbitration and mutual consent of the complainants which is manifestation of community policing in Bahawalpur division. Addressing a meeting held here with the parliamentarians to review the law and order, Regional Police Officer Dr Ehsan Sadiq said that special measures have been taken to seal brothels, gambling and narcotics dens to eradicate the practice in Bahawalpur region. He said that a hot-line has also been made operational at the regional police office to provide online access for the complainants and more than 500 complaints have been addressed so far through this mechanism.

The RPO said that the police have adopted zero tolerance policy against proclaimed offenders and land-grabbers, he said, adding that a vigorous crackdown on such elements also has minimised the crime rate in the region. “Under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, effective steps have been taken to bridge the gap between police and the common man which also helped to reduce trust deficit between police and citizens,” he pointed out.

On the occasion, Provincial Minister for Co-operatives Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channer praised the result oriented and effective measures adopted by the police under the command of Dr Ehsan Sadiq, saying that special attention should be given to immediate registration of FIR which is the initial step to provide speedy justice to the citizens. He also appreciated the steps taken by the RPO against corrupt police officials.

Parliamentary Secretary on Irrigation Khalid Mahmood Jajja and MNA Begum Perveen Masood Bhatti also attended the meeting.
