LAHORE - A retired military officer yesterday ended his life by shooting himself in the mouth at his house in Askari-V, police sources said.

Investigators identified the 60-year-old man as Maj (r) Shahid Mahmood, who was residing alone at his house located in the limits of Naseerabad police. His wife and children are settled abroad.

Locals alerted the police after they heard gunshot yesterday afternoon. The man was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced as brought dead. The police were investigating the death.

In another incident, a 70-year-old man committed suicide by shooting himself in the head at his house in Iqbal Town. Resident of (Rachna Block) Iqbal Town, Muhammad Ashraf was said to be a retired officer of the education department. The police were investigating the death.

CRUSHED

A 10-year-old boy was crushed under a van in Factory Area yesterday. Police said that Usman Ali was trying to cross Ferozepur Road when a speedy van ran over him. He died on the spot.

The driver managed to flee on his vehicle. Further investigation is in process.
