Schools reopen with 50pc attendance of students

ISLAMABAD  -  The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) positivity ratio in Islamabad on Monday surged to over 12 percent on the day when all schools in the city were also announced opened.

According to the details released by District Health Office (DHO), the COVID-19 positivity ratio in the capital has become 12.81% which is the highest rate since May 17.

The details said, 3076 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and 349 people have been tested positive with the virus.

According to the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC), no death occurred in the city due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The NCOC stats also said that the total number of deaths in the city so far due to COVID-19 reached 803. It also said that the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) since the COVID-19 emerged has become 88093 and the number of patients recovered from the virus is 83443.

Meanwhile, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) also notified the re-opening of all schools and colleges with 50 percent strength to reduce the chances of virus spread.

The notification issued by FDE said that the school attendance of children will be 50 percent per day, so the children will come to school in two groups as per the previous routine. Group A’s scheduled days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The scheduled days for Group B are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Issuing the guidelines for parents the FDE said that students’ hair and nails should be trimmed and clean, and shoes should be clean and polished. Uniforms and socks shall be washed on a daily basis.

It also asked to send children out of the house wearing masks at all times and an extra mask in their bag. 

 It also asked parents to strictly encourage students to wear masks except while eating or drinking water and that students should have soap and sanitizer with them.

The FDE notified to encourage children to avoid sitting close to each other. Students should have all the necessary things such as a rough copy, pencil, eraser, sharpener, scale, pen and remover.

It further asked parents, “if the child has cough, flu or fever, do not send the child to school at all.”
