LAHORE The Pakistan cricket team management Wednesday announced a 13-member team for the second Test starting from today (Thursday). The interesting thing to note is the late inclusion of Faisal Iqbal in the team because earlier a 12-member team was named and Faisal was included later probably as the reports say on pressure from within the cricket board. Pakistan team coach Intikhab Alam said in a television interview that the team is to be selected from 13 players and not 12 as mistakenly announced earlier. He said that the final team will be named after inspection of the wicket. There could be change on one down position and Faisal Iqbal or Misbahul Haq will get a chance to play in place of Fawad Alam. However, reports received here said that none of the senior players wanted to turn up for batting at the number three position and the management is in a quandary over who to send in the crucial position during the second Test against New Zealand starting on Thursday, in Wellington. According to website reports quoting team sources, even Misbah-ul-Haq, who has been rushed to reinforce the team in New Zealand, is not keen to play at the number three position. Who will bat at number three has become a big talking point in the team meetings as now Faisal Iqbal has been asked to play at this position but even he is not keen to play at number three, the report said. The number three position has been left vacant after Younus Khan pulled out of the tour. Younus, who was replaced as captain by Muhammad Yousuf, has been playing at the number three position in Test matches for the last few years with considerable success and scored a triple hundred in Karachi this year against Sri Lanka. The problem has arisen because neither Yousuf himself or Shoaib Malik are willing to volunteer to play at number three and now even Misbah and Faisal are uncertain about taking up this responsibility, the report said. Pakistan tried young Fawad Alam at this position in the first Test in Dunedin but he failed and the team also lost the match. The report said coach Intikhab Alam is also frustrated with the situation but cant force any of the senior players to play at the spot. The team has also faced problems in its practice sessions due to bad weather. The second Test of the three-match series between New Zealand and Pakistan will be played from December 3 in Wellington. Another biggest problem for Pakistan was the continuous rain in Wellington due to which the team could not get a proper chance of practicing. Thus, the Pakistan team participated in indoor practice session. Team manager Abdul Raquib said that the team practiced indoors and at that ground later in the evening. He said that Misbah could not take part in the indoor training session as he arrived late. He practiced with the team on Tuesday and Wednesday. Misbahs playing the second Test could not so far be decided. SQUAD: Muhammad Yousuf (captain), Salman Butt, Imran Farhat, Fawad Alam, Umer Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, Abdul Rauf, Umer Gul, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Aamir, Misbahul Haq and Faisal Iqbal.
