LAHORE - Dacoits clad in police uniforms gunned down a 25-year-old woman just at a stones throw from Shahdara police station shortly after her husband offered resistance late on Wednesday night while robbers shot dead a youth in Badami Bagh police area on early Thursday, police sources said. Resident of Jamal Park Shahdara, Ghulam Nabi along with his wife Mamoona Bibi and one-year-old baby boy was on his way home when two armed men clad in police uniforms intercepted them in the street adjacent to Shahdara police station. The 'policemen held up the couple at gunpoint and demanded cash, gold ornaments and other valuables. As Ghulam Nabi offered resistance and tried to overpower one of the robbers, the other opened fire on him. He survived but his wife Mamoona fell on the ground as the bullet pierce through her head, resulting in her on-the-spot death. Ghulam Mustafa, brother of Ghulam Nabi came outside his nearby house after listening to the gunshot and started chasing the 'policemen who were fleeing from the scene. According to him, the robbers entered Shahdara police station, from where they later disappeared. Meanwhile, the concerned SHO Sharif Sindhu reached the spot to collect evidences from the scene. The police team later visited the residence of the deceased to record the statement of her husband. Ghulam Nabi started making hue and cry, captured one of the policemen and told the SHO that he was the killer of his wife. The alleged robber identified as Constable Imtiaz managed to escape from the scene in the presence of several police officials. The police later removed the body to the morgue for autopsy. The police have registered the case against unidentified killers and are investigating with no arrest made so far. Muhammad Khalid, head of the victim family, told reporters that the police did not register the case as per their application and trying to save the skins of their colleagues. When contacted, a police spokesman Nayab Haider said the victim family mistakenly identified the police constable as robber. They (robbers) were wearing shawls to conceal their identity. So husband of the deceased could not identify them, the spokesman added. He said a robbery-cum-murder case had been registered against unidentified criminals. In another incident, a 26-year-old motorcyclist was on his way home when two armed bandits intercepted him near Khokhar Pind in Badami Bagh police area. The robbers held him up at gunpoint and demanded cash and mobile phone. As he offered resistance, the bandits opened fire on him and managed to escape from the crime scene. The youth later identified as Hafiz Shafique sustained bullet injuries in the head and was rushed to a nearby hospital but died in the way. The police have removed the body to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating with no arrest made so far. The police and the government have badly failed to improve the law and order situation in the heart of the Punjab province, Sohail Khan, a robbery-victim commented. Meanwhile, thieves broke into the house of Canadian-returned Sheikh Iftikhar situated in Dolat Ram street in Nolakha police precincts and made off with cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 7.5 million after breaking the locks. In other incidents, 3 motorcycles (LEZ-9919, LZZ-2580, LEN-8212) were stolen away from Defense-B and Shadman police areas. The car of one Omar was also stolen away from the parking lot of Services Hospital.
