LAHORE - Anti-encroachment squads of TMA, Ravi Town and Data Ganj Bakhsh Town have launched a crackdown on the handcart vendors in surrounding areas of Railway Station, Empress Road, Circular Road and some other localities of the City on Thursday evening. The town officials not only removed the makeshift stalls and a number of handcarts from the roadsides but also challaned and imposed fines to these vendors. The officials told this scribe that they had repeatedly warned these vendors to shift their business some other suitable places instead of encroaching roads and footpaths because such encroachments not only were causing nuisance for the pedestrians but also were hurdle in smooth flow of traffic. But they used to ignore the warnings, which compelled the officials to launch crackdown on them.
