ISLAMABAD (APP) Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Thursday termed students future of the nation and urged them to play their due role for defeating terrorism and extremism. Addressing the participants of the certificate distribution ceremony among the position holders in different examinations of Preston University, he said, The government and the security forces cannot defeat this menace unless the young generation particularly the students come forward in this regard. The government has to spend huge amount on the security due to present law and order situation of the country, he added. Qamar Zaman Kaira said entire nation is united for eliminating terrorism and extremism from the society. He said that the government is moving in right direction for addressing the basic problems of the people. The government has ensured the 1973 Constitution in its original shape and transferred the powers to provinces under the 18th Amendment, he added. The Minister urged the people to demonstrate unity for defeating the terrorism and extremism. He disagreed to the impression that war against terrorism is not the war of Pakistan. Pakistani people and its security forces, nationals are being killed in the terrorism activities. How can we say this is not our war, he asked. Terrorism and extremism are two major challenges along with poverty and economy on which the government is focusing, he added. He said it was on record that terrorists were removing Pakistani flag from FATA, Malakand and Swat but due to effective counter terrorism strategy of the Government they have been defeated in those areas. Kaira said the country problems are bigger than its resources but the present government is committed to utilize all resources and efforts for the welfare of people. He said the country is rich in human resource which is the building block for development and government is taking steps to utilize it for national development. The Minister said it is the responsibility of the state to provide education, health, job, security and other facilities to the people. He appreciated private sector for joining hands with the government in extending education to the grass-root level and said it would have been hard for the government to provide education to all without the help of private sector. He congratulated the students for securing top positions in their classes and the parents on the success of their children. The Minister also shared with the students that Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is working on a public outreach program to initiate discussions and interaction with the students through programs at all educational levels. He added that this program will be launched very soon and he will also visit various universities in this regard to interact with students on the issues presently faced by the government. Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Abdul Basit said Preston University started providing education in private sector in 1984. It has produced about 65,000 graduates which are serving the country on different posts. He appreciated the efforts of the government for provision of quality educational facilities to the people in collaboration with private sector. Later, the minister distributed the certificates among the position holders.
