Repetitive mistakes in Balochistan

Balochistan issues are again very much in the news. But it is a pity that we are still unable to resolve the issue in an amicable manner. Mismanagement by successive Pakistani regimes and longstanding grievances has estranged the Baloch leadership. There is hence urgent need to start different developmental projects in the province. The Baloch had already raised serious objection on Gwadar Ports development as they were not given any share in it. In reality, they have been totally expelled from it. The non-Baloch elite has purchased the land where Gwader city is to be constructed and large industrial groups are competing to purchase large landholdings for hotels and restaurants etc at a throwaway price. And again we are repeating the mistake in the case of Riko Diqs gold and copper mines by awarding contracts to foreign companies at a throw-away price. Lately Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has issued notices on a petition against giving away contracts at unbelievably small price. It is time to stop further exploitation of the province. MAIMUNA ASHRAF, Rawalpindi, November 2.
