ISLAMABAD - With the aim to strengthen party in Punjab and give tough time to opponents, particularly PML-N, PPP's central command has decided in principle to carve out another party chapter comprising areas falling in Potohar region (Jehlum to Attock). Sources in the party revealed to TheNation that decision to this effect was made after threadbare deliberations in the party's core committee and they finally concluded that after the bifurcation of party into southern and central Punjab, another chapter would be carved out from central Punjab comprising the districts in Potohar region, mainly to spruce up the party's functioning on ground and to prepare it for the upcoming elections. The sources said that the third chapter of Punjab would comprise the districts of Jehlum, Chakwal, Attock and Rawalpindi and it would be named after Potohar Chapter of the party. Right now the party's high command is looking for a suitable candidate to be made as the president of this new chapter of the party and prominent among those names are under consideration included Leader of House in Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari and former federal minister for water and power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. The sources further said that earlier the Pakistan Peoples Party southern Punjab chapter was announced with Federal Minister Makhdoom Shahbuddin as its President while the command of Pakistan Peoples Party Punjab Chapter Safdar Warriach was reduced to the rest of the province and now his area of working would be further reduced to only central Punjab areas and Potohar region would be separated from it. The sources further said that the aim behind dividing the party's Punjab Chapter was to improve the command and control over the party tertiary and further lower cadre and to break into the stronghold of PML-N having strong roots and control in the province.
