MULTAN - Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Ameer Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar has said that the verdict of Lahore High Court regarding construction of Kalabagh Dam (KBD) should be accepted and implemented by all in letter and spirit.
In a statement issued here, he added that the country suffered heavily because of stubbornness and anti-Pakistan stance of a few people. He said that India did want Pakistan to prosper. "India is using her agents for this purpose. The opponents of construction of dams in Pakistan are acting upon the advice of their Indian masters," he maintained.
He lashed out at the government and said that it completely failed to deliver. He added that price hike, loadshedding, unemployment and lawlessness ruined the lives of masses but the rulers did nothing to improve the situation.
He added that the rulers pursued the policies of Musharraf.
Referring to unrest in Pakistan, he said that peace could not be maintained in the country until we detached ourselves from so-called American war on terror. Citing a statement of an American journalist in which he claimed that 98 per cent of victims of drone attacks were women, children and innocent people, Dr Waseem said that it was an eye opener for the government.
DRIVE FOR ROADS WIDENING: The Sher Shah Town administration demolished two dozens more shops during an operation launched to widen Abdali and Katchery roads at Ghanta Ghar Chowk here. The operation was launched on the special directions of DCO Naseem Sadiq and the TMA officials claimed that the Katchehry Road would become 33 foot more wide and Abdali Road 15 feet.
The TMA personnel demolished the shops and other constructions with the help heavy machinery. Earlier, the shopkeepers held talks with the DCO, who assured them that they would be given alternate shops for business. Police installed barriers and blocked Abdali Road from Ghanta Ghar point. Heavy contingents were deployed at the operation spot to maintain law and order but the situation remained peaceful.
FIRE INCIDENT: A big quantity flour, wheat and other valuables worth Rs10 million were gutted in a fire erupted in a local flour mills due to short-circuit of electricity in early Sunday morning. The flour mills were closed due to holiday of Sunday. The fire-fighters extinguished the fire after three-hour long struggle. The owners of the flour mills to the police that big quantity of flour, wheat and other valuables was Rs10 million were gutted in the fire.
New plan to improve EPI Programme proposed: The Heath Department has chalked out a comprehensive action plan to ensure hundred percent vaccinations of newly-born children and pregnant women against nine fatal diseases, declared EDO Health Dr Farooq Azam.
To improve EPI programme in the district, he said that two teams from the existing staff would be available at all basic health centres for vaccination. He said that measures would be taken to overcome the shortage of sanitary inspectors and vaccinators at UC level.
MEHFIL-E-MUSHARA: The GCUF arranged Mehfil-e-Mushara to enthral poetry-lovers at its Hockey Ground in which humorous and serious poetry was presented before the gathering. The event was arranged by the Department of Urdu, GCUF on the instructions of GCUF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zakir Hussain.  Famous columnist Attaul Haq Qasmi chaired the event in which senior poet Aslam Ensari was guest of honor.
