Bombers attacked a police patrol on Monday, killing two officers and wounding two others on the outskirts of the main northwestern city of Peshawar, police said.

The remote-controlled bomb targeted a van on a routine patrol in Shahabkhel village of Peshawar's Badhaber suburb.

"The bomb destroyed the police van and killed two policemen," Imran Shahid, a senior police official told AFP.

Zarshed Khan, a bomb disposal expert, said two kilograms of explosives were used in the device and that two policemen were also wounded.

The injured were shifted to the Lady Reading hospital while the deceased were identified as sub-inspector Tajammul Khan and Sepoy Ibrar. Police cordoned off the entire area after blast and started search operation for the miscreants.
