LAHORE - No arrest has been confirmed yet in connection with the murder of stage actress Qismat Baig as police are investigating the fatal shooting which took place in Harbanspura on November 24.

The officer denied media reports suggesting that four people including a drama producer were arrested by police. SSP (Investigations) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera said that a few suspects were taken into custody following the shooting but nobody was formally arrested yet. The officer straightforwardly rejected reports that a drama producer and three hired assassins were arrested by CIA police. He said the police were investigating the case with no arrest made yet.

Reportedly, the Lahore’s CIA police raided in Faisalabad and Gujranwala and arrested four persons including the main accused. They were identified as Rana Muzammil, Rana Fahim, Rana Tajammal and Shahid Janjua.

“A fellow actress is involved in the murder and apparently, the motive of the killing was professional rivalry,” another report stated.

According to police sources, the motives behind the brazen gun attack were not clear yet. An official claimed that the police had traced the cases and the persons involved in the killing. “Police teams are conducting raids to arrest the killers,” he added.

The stylish stage actress was shot in the legs and chest by more than five gunmen in the residential locality. She breathed her last at the Services Hospital after 18 hour-battle for life.

Hina Baig alias Qismat Baig and her private secretary Ali Butt riding in a car were coming back home when five men stopped their vehicle at gunpoint near Palki Marriage Hall in Canal Point Scheme. They opened the car doors and fired at the lady and her driver.

Earlier, police questioned some colleagues of the actress and also grilled some other men who were in contact with the victim. The investigators also recoded the statements of her relatives, private secretary, some police officials and some of her colleagues.
