ISLAMABAD-PAF and Wapda qualified for the final of the 1st Chief of Air Staff (CAS) National Kabaddi Championship 2016 after carving out hard-fought victories in the semifinals against SNGPL and Army respectively here at jam-packed Pakistan Sports Complex, Jinnah Stadium on Friday.

The final will be played at 2:30pm, while the third position match between Army and SNGPL will take place at 11am. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marsahl Sohail Aman will grace the final as chief guest.

In the first semifinal played between PAF and SNGPL, PAF did manage to win the match, but after a very tough battle. Thanks mainly to international players Irfan Jaat, Lala Abdullah Kamboh, Waqas Jat and Sajid, PAF carved out victory in the dying moments of the match, as it was 24-24 by the end of the first half and SNGPL started the second half in great style, taking lead for the first time, but at the end, it was the experience of airmen, which helped them register a narrow 48-42 victory.

The same was the case in the second semifinal, where Wapda and Army were involved in battle royal. Army was enjoying tremendous support from the large section of the crowd while Wapda had the likes of Khalid Mehr, Heera Butt, Khalid Bhatti and Mohsin Wahla, who were outstanding and remained instrumental in helping Wapda achieve 46-41 victory. Ali Shan, Rana Naeem, Haroon and Shakeel Jat played well from the losing side. The winners of the event will receive cash prize of Rs 400,000 while the runners-up will pocket Rs 200,000, the third and fourth place teams Rs 75,000 each and the two best players of the event would earn Rs 25,000 each.
