MULTAN-Society for special persons and Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry jointly organised a rally from chamber to regional Scouts headquarters to create awareness on the rights and importance of special children.

The rally was led by Fareed Mughis Sheikh, former MCCI president, Sheikh Fazal Elahi, Syed Ijaz Shah and Mirza Ali Ahmed and Secretary General Khurram Javed. More than 100 special persons mostly females joined the rally, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony and a training workshop for parents on how to handle special children.

Zahra Sajjad Zaidi, Zahida Hameed Qureshi ,Begum Tahira Najam, Saadia Kirmani said that Persons with disabilities, “the world’s largest minority”, have generally poorer health, lower education achievements, fewer economic opportunities and higher rates of poverty than people without disabilities. This is largely due to the lack of services available to them (like information and communications technology (ICT), justice or transportation) and the many obstacles they face in their everyday lives. These obstacles can take a variety of forms, including those relating to the physical environment, or those resulting from legislation or policy, or from societal attitudes or discrimination. They said that factors which place people with disabilities at higher risk of violence include stigma, discrimination, and ignorance about disability, as well as a lack of social support for those who care for them. Today, the world population is over 7 billion people. More than one billion people, or approximately 15 per cent of the world’s population, live with some form of disability, 80 percent live in developing countries. United Nations has asked the Governments to implement measures to improve the life of disabled persons all over the world. People from different areas of Multan district participated in the event to promote the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Events included art exhibitions promoting artwork by people with disabilities. In his message Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) said “We have signed an MoU with Society for special persons and we are bound to cooperate with them in providing jobs and organising training workshops. He said that it was matter of satisfaction that our special persons are educated and skilled and able to serve the nation. He said that they are not alone because we are standing with them.
