LAHORE -  Dr Ashraf Asif Jalali-led faction of Tehrik Laibak Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR) ended the seven-day protest sit-in on The Mall on Friday after reaching an agreement with the government.

The TLYR agreed to call off the strike as the government announced to divulge the report of Senator Raja Zafarul Haq on the controversial amendment within a month. However, they agreed to let the matter of the resignation of Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan be resolved by Peer Hameeduddin Sialvi, the Peer of Sial Sharif.

A TLYR committee consisting of Syed Naveedul Hassan Mashhadi, Walid Ahmad Sharaqpuri and Mufti Abid Jalali talked to the two-member body of the government that was comprised Railway Minister Khwaja Saad Rafiq and Punjab Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman.

Talking to the media after successful negotiations, Dr Jalali announced to wrap up the sit-in warning that they would hold the same again if their demands were not accepted by the government within one month.

The Tehrik started the sit-in on November 24 against the amendment to the constitutional oath regarding the Finality of Prophethood. Though the amendment was later withdrawn, the religious organisations want identification and due punishment to those conspired to amend the oath to please the Ahmadis. In the course of time, the issue stretched to other areas to also grab Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah who had made statement in support of Ahmadis. The Tehrik raised the demand for Rana’s resignation.

Simultaneously, running is a development on the political side wherein Peer of Sial Sharif Hameeduddin Sialvi is holding resignations of at least a dozen PML-N MNAs and MPAs in his hand subscribing to the demand of the law minister’s resignation for which Peer Sahib has also set a deadline till 3pm today (Sunday).

Earlier, Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid had to resign as a result of the Faisabad sit-in staged by Tehrik Labaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR) of Khadim Hussain Rizvi. He was accused of drafting the controversial amendment. Its 21-day long dharna in the heart of the federal capital brought the government to its knee following a failed combined operation by police, FC and the Rangers Wednesday last. Both the factions of the Tehrik stand as independent entities, through separately written agreement with the PML-N government in the centre and in Punjab respectively have given a timeframe to the government for accepting their demands. The Raja Zafarul Haq report had been prepared on the inquiry carried out on the instructions of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif in the first week of October.

Announcing end to dharna at Faisal Chowk, The Mall, Dr Jalali told the media that their demands had been met and the government had pledged to look into Rana Sana’s statement through a committee. He said a committee consisting of ulema of all the schools of thought and the government representatives will also take stocks of the ban on using loudspeakers in the mosques and on its recommendations legislation will be carried out by January 16 next year.

The Tehrik has also supported the TLYR (Rivzi) agreement it reached with the government on November 3 for revisiting the syllabus by an ulema board. Jalali further said the government had provided them with a list of their workers arrested, martyred or injured and his body leaves it to Khadim Hussain Rizvi to decide by December 30 for registration of FIRs.

He said they have also demanded constitution of a body to see where Ahmadis are crossing the red line set by the constitution on their faith. He said the government has agreed to set up a body for the purpose. He said they have also been assured of acting strictly in accordance with the law on Asiya Maseeh, a convict for blasphemy. He said they have also demanded diplomatic and moral support for Rohyngiya Muslims and relief operation with the help of Turkey be started for them. Jalali also said that the Faizabad agreement struck between TLYR (Rizvi).
