'Missing doctor Razzaq in Pindi Police custody'

ISLAMABAD - Islamabad High Court on Monday disposed of a petition challenging the disappearance of a railway hospital doctor after coming to know that Rawalpindi police in connection with several suicide hits has arrested the missing doctor. During the hearing of a petition against the disappearance of Dr Abdul Razzaq before a single bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC) chaired by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam, the counsel for government stated that the doctor has been arrested by Rawalpindi police in connection with suicide attacks on surgeon general of armed forces and a foreign embassy while he was further planning attacks on Pakistan day parade on March 23. Dr Abdul Razzaq, who was working in railway hospital Rawalpindi, had been missing since September 23 last year. Previously, the police of both Rawalpindi and Islamabad had been denying any knowledge about his custody. Afzoona Kousar, the wife of missing doctor had moved IHC under article 199 of the constitution shortly after the disappearance of her husband with the apprehension that Dr Razzaq was been detained either by police or an intelligence agency. Federation of Pakistan, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence, Inspector General Police, Islamabad, Deputy Inspector General Rawalpindi Range, SHO Ganjmandi Police Station and Sho Shalimar Police Station were made respondents in the petition. After hearing about the latest development, Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam observed that the petitioner could approach anti terrorist court, Rawalpindi for any remedy as the same was proceeding against her husband on terror charges in a number of cases. Counsel for the petitioner on the occasion said the arrest of Dr Razzaq on terror charges was drama and he was with police authorities since last many weeks. Though police had been expressing ignorance about him in the past, Dr Abdul Razzaq was recently spotted among those nine arrested terror suspects who were allegedly involved in masterminding, financing, and facilitating suicide attacks on surgeon general Pakistan Army Lt. General Mushtaq Beg, an Italian Restaurant, the Danish Embassy and another suicide attack on police party in Islamabad.
