PM's son refuses cooperation with three PPP MPAs

LAHORE - Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, has flatly refused to cooperate with three PPP MPAs when they approached him for the safe release of Station House Officer (SHO) Ghalib Market, Ehsan Ashraf Butt, who was arrested and booked on the charges of committing house-robbery with the connivance of his seven other subordinate police officials. The police officer was sent to Defence A police station lock-up after he was found guilty in an inquiry for committing house robbery in the house-cum-office of Prime Minister's close friend Sheikh Ayyub in HH-Block of DHA. It has been learnt reliably that three MPAs and other PPP leaders started efforts to press the senior police officers to withdraw legal action against the accused SHO. A delegation of PPP member parliamentarians led by a senior PPP leader met Abdul Qadir Gilani at his Defence residence and asked him to use his influence for the release of the arrested police officer, Ehsan Ashraf Butt. Abdul Qadir Gilani, however, flatly refused the PPP leaders saying that the party's priority was not to back the criminals like the police officer found guilty by a high-level inquiry committee of the police officers and advised them to stay away from perusing the said case in this regard. A source in the police department said that the accused police officer Ehsan Ashraf Butt was enjoying VIP protocol in the police station. The investigation police got three-day physical remand of the accused inspector and his accomplice police official Jaffar but so far they are not treating their colleague like the other accused. The investigation police declared the room of incharge investigation of Defence-A PS as 'lock up' and kept the accused inspector in the said room providing him all necessary facilities including a cell phone. The accused was contacting his 'influential friends' using his cell phone for help. He was also being served with quality food purchased from the local hotels. According to the police sources, Ehsan Ashraf was shifted from the lock up to the room of incharge investigation police of the PS Defence a few hours after his arrest. The matter was not brought into the knowledge of the senior police officers including the ASP and SP Investigation concerned. The sources further revealed that despite getting physical remand, the investigation officer (IO) did not interrogate the accused police officer to recover looted items from his possession and other arrested policemen. They said the accused police officer was among those police officials who had strong links with qabza mafia and used to work for the influential political leaders. The sources said that he had bad repute in the police circles but yet no action was ever taken against him due to his strong relations with the influential people including the elected parliamentarians. When contacted Superintendent Police (SP) Cantt Investigation Abdul Rub said that an accused whether a police officer or an ordinary person should be treated equally and without discrimination. He said that he would himself probe into the matter and would take action if the accused police officer got VIP protocol in the police station. The SP further said that the accused SHO had allegedly committed house robbery and looted cash and other valuables worth Rs200,000 so he would be interrogated accordingly.
