LAHORE Family members of a boy along with locals blocked Multan Road on Tuesday in protest against Samanabad police for killing their kin in fake encounter. The protesters from Muhajir Abad and Multan Road localities kept the road blocked for more than two hours, throwing traffic out of the gear. The protesters accused SHO Samanabad Police Station Adnan Masood of killing Haider, a student of FA, in fake encounter for not giving him bribe. They kept body of the victim on the road and did not disperse even after dialogue with two MPAs and SP concerned. They said they would not end the protest until they would be given a copy of FIR against the SHO. They burnt old tyres on both sides of the road. The family accused the police registered a fake case against Haider a month ago to extort money. The family members said they did not offered bribe to the SHO and got Haider released on bail. On that, the SHO developed grudge against Haider and killed him on early Tuesday and threw his body in a street near Ichra police station. They said the police tried to link the death of Haider with some accident but a bullet wound in his body negated their claim. An SP ranking officer, however, said that a proper inquiry would be conducted against the police officials and no one would be spared if found guilty. He said the investigation would be conducted on merit and killers of the deceased would not be spared. Later PML-N MPAs Hafiz Nuaman and Mehar Muhammad Mushtar and District Coordination Officer Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta reached the spot and tried to disperse the protesters through dialogue. They dispersed after assurance of action against the responsible. SHO Adnan Masood denied the allegations, saying that he had no link with Haider death. He said some time ago the deceased was arrested but released on bail in a case of aerial firing at a marriage ceremony. He said no encounter took place in the area and his death might be outcome of personal enmity. He said the protesters were trying to create hype by twisting the issue.
