ISLAMABAD The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and city government to submit a comprehensive report on the plaza owned by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah. A 3-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Javed Iqbal, heard the cases pertaining to high-rise buildings in Lahore. Khawaja Haris, counsel for LDA, argued before the court that the majority of high-rise plazas in Lahore were owned by businessmen as well as the influentials. Mian Iftikhar, who represented the city government, said, it was the duty of the government to keep check on builders. Meanwhile, A.K. Dogar, who appeared before the court on behalf of owners of plazas, argued that his clients always followed the rules of LDA. During the course of hearing, Justice Javed Iqbal remarked the plaza owned by Rana Sana Ullah was being discussed too much now a days. The court be informed what were the facts about it, he further remarked. Khawaja Haris told that a committee had been constituted to look into this matter. Justice Javed Iqbal observed the committee had been constituted about one plaza. Media was publishing reports as to why SC was not taking action about this plaza. A detailed report on this plaza be presented in the court, he remarked. The court was informed that action was being taken against the corrupt employees of LDA. The court said the list of such officers against whom cases were being initiated in anti-corruption department be provided to it. Bail pleas of certain officers among them have been rejected. If action has to be taken then it should be taken against all, the court observed. Advocate Suleman Butt said Burewala plaza had been constructed as per approved map and only outstanding dues were required to be paid to LDA. We are ready to pay them, he added. Then you should pay the dues, Justice Javed Iqbal remarked. Justice Raja Fayyaz directed Suleman Butt to pay the amount of fine, otherwise legal proceedings would be initiated against him. The court was told a mosque also existed in Karim Block, which had been dismantled. I will go there and see this matter in person. If there is a mosque over there then I will offer prayers there too, Justice Javed Iqbal observed. Meanwhile, the hearing of the case was adjourned till today.
