LAHORE - Army chief General Raheel Sharif called on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday. The security situation in the country and the government’s initiative to hold talks with the Taliban were the major subjects of discussion between the two leaders.
After the meeting, the chief minister briefed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif about what he discussed with the chief of army staff. The chief minister also discussed with the prime minister the formation of a committee to hold talks with the Taliban.
It was decided that all-out efforts would be made to bring an end to terrorist activities and establish a lasting peace. A meeting between the COAS and the prime minister is expected to take place during the next few days.
