Six persons including a woman were killed when roof of a seminary and adjacent mosque caved in while Qul khawani was in progress here in Chak 130/15L Mian Channu. More than 50 persons were also injured in the incident.

According to details, Quran khawani for the departed soul of Maulana Rab Nawaz Abid, patron of Madrasa Hussain ibne Ali in Rehmat colony Chak 130/15L Mian Channu was in progress in the seminary. The Maulana had passed away last week. Meanwhile, a large number of participants had to sit on the first floor of the Madrasa due to which it caved in. Resultantly six persons including Ghulam Muhammad, Shanawaz Bibi and Pir Bakhsh, Bashir Ahmad, Ghulam Nabi and another died while more than 50 injured. The injured were rushed to THQ Hospital Mian Channu and later some of them were referred to Multan Nishtar Hospital due to their critical condition. On information, Rescue 1122 and local social organisation rushed the spot and carried out rescue operation.

Meanwhile, local MPA Rana Babr Hussain and others officers reached the hospital to inquire after the injured. On the other hand, when local media tried to have access to patients, THQ Hospital MS Abdul Sattar Kamboh and other doctors misbehaved with and insulted them ‘apparently’ to hide the poor arrangements and lack of facilities in the hospital from being exposed.

In the meanwhile, Khanewal DCO Usman Moazzam told the media that he had deputed Mianchannu AC Amjad Saleem and EDO health Dr Maroof to monitor and assist the rescue work and ensure best treatment to the injured. According to the police, building of the madrasa and adjacent mosque was in dilapidated condition and could not withheld the large number of participants.
