Massive power outages predicted in Karachi

ISLAMABAD- Citizens in Karachi will face significant increase in power outages as the federal government stopped supply of 650 megawatts to K-Electric through the national grid.

In a briefing to National Assembly’s Standing Committee, the federal secretary of water and power hinted that the agreement between the federal government and the K-Electric was not likely to be renegotiated.

He stressed upon K-Electric to generate electricity through its own power plants. He said that K-Electric could generate 2000-2500 megawatt power through its idle plants.

Experts say shortage of power will plunge one-fourth of the country’s business capital into darkness.
