Aisam attributes victory to mother

ISLAMABAD - Aisam Qureshi attributed his victory in the Davis Cup opener against Korea to his mother Nosheen Ihtsham, who remains at his side through thick and thin.

Talking to The Nation, Aisam said: “I have always played for Pakistan and once again, Almighty gave me strength to stand tall. I was almost down and out, but my mother prayers and my hard work helped me come out of that bad time and help the country register another crucial victory. I never played for money or for self-benefits, but always played for my country and continue to serve it in the best possible manner.”

Sharing her views, Nosheen Ihtsham said she couldn’t sit home, when Pakistan is playing. “I always supported the country not my son. Aqeel and others are also like my sons. The feeling is not easy to convey in words. The way both the Pakistani players played and served the country is amazing and I am grateful to Almighty that Aisam and Aqeel produced wonders for Pakistan.

“I always motivate and buck up team Pakistan. For me, winning and playing for the country is the biggest prize and satisfaction. I always ensure that not only me, Aisam’s father, sister, brother and entire family remain present to back up the country. I hope they will carry their good work for more years and Allah give me and my family health to remain present at the venue to buck my son and my country,” she added.

Aqeel Khan said he was not nervous at all rather he was aware that the ball is in his court. The way Aisam carved out sensational victory, it was a source of extra-motivation for him. “I was settled down well, but my shots and services were disturbing me, or else I could have won the match in straight sets. Anyhow, the first target of winning the singles has been achieved and now let see, who plays the doubles. It is up to team captain, as we are always ready to play out our best for Pakistan.”
