Rawalpindi - A gang of six robbers riding on motorcycles intercepted four persons, including a German national of Pakistani origin, and snatched Rs1.4 million from them at gunpoint, sources told The Nation on Friday. 

According to sources, a man namely Raja Asad lodged a complaint with Police Station Civil Line on January 1 stating that he along with his brother Raja Zafar who had recently returned from Germany and two other family members went to the Mall Plaza Sadar from where they changed foreign currency.

After they arrived at Bata Chowk, six robbers on three bikes intercepted them and asked them to give up the cash. He said the robbers snatched Rs1.4,70 million cash from them.

Upon showing resistance, the robbers opened fire at our car, he said. The robbers managed escape from the scene. He asked police to register a case and begin investigation.

An eyewitness told The Nation that one of the victims sustained a bullet injury on the leg when he tried to catch the fleeing robbers.

SHO Police Station Civil Line Yasir, when contacted, confirmed that robbers snatched cash from the four men. He denied any bullet injury to any person.

To a query, he said, that the claim of Raja Zafar, a German National, is suspicious as he himself did not become applicant in the robbery case.

He said that police would arrest the culprits soon.
