LAHORE - The Punjab Assembly witnessed rare incident of adjournment of session after brief proceedings for 35 minutes on Friday, not due to lack of quorum but completion of agenda.

The session started one hour and 50 minutes beyond the schedule time with Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal in the chair. Though the Opposition allowed smooth proceedings by not pointing quorum, the session lasted for less than half an hour after talawat and naat due to completion of agenda. The chair pended Question Hour on getting information of deterioration of health of Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering (HUD&PHE) Syed Haroon Sultan Bokhari.

The chair referred audit reports on the accounts of Communication & Works, HUD&PHE and Irrigation departments, Daanish Schools, Centers of Excellence Authority and Cholistan Development Authority for the audit year 2015-16 to Public Accounts Committee II.

The chair also referred audit reports on the accounts of the Punjab government for the year 2016-17 and revenue receipts for the year 2015-16 to the PAC II.

The chair expressed displeasure over Malik Arshard’s request for extending period for presentation of report relating to the Food Department. The legislator said that lack of cooperation on the part of officers was delaying presentation of report. Suggesting the legislators to submit written complaints against such departments, the chair promised action against the responsible officers. He made it clear that extension in period for presentation of reports would not be given in future.

The chair referred adjournment motions moved by PML-Q’s legislator Kadija Umar, PTI’s Sadia Sohail Rana and Nabila Hakim Ali to relevant departments for submitting reports.

On completion of agenda within 35 minutes after start of proceedings, the chair adjourned the session till Monday (February 5) at 2pm.
