LAHORE - Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif has said that living nations face all challenges boldly and we should also maintain such an atmosphere of peace, brotherhood and amity during Muharramul Haram, which should be unprecedented. He said that there is need to display unity and solidarity for foiling the nefarious designs of enemies and assembly members should also play their due role in this regard by spreading the message of peace and love to every nook and corner of the country, says a hand out issued on Friday. The CM was presiding over a high level meeting held here at Chief Minister's Secretariat to review arrangements for ensuring peace and tranquility in Lahore division during Muharramul Haram. Members of National and Provincial Assemblies of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, officers of district administration and police, Commissioner Lahore Division and senior officers were present. The CM said that we should rise above our petty differences in the interest of survival and stability of the country and should unite on a single platform, as it is the prime need under the situation. He directed that telephone and fax numbers of control rooms set up at divisional level should be publicised in newspapers so that people could contact them in any emergency. The CM said that India is involved in disturbing law and order in Balochistan whereas an Indian army colonial was involved in Samjota Express tragedy. He said it is our desire that Pakistan and India should have good relations on the basis of equality as it is in the benefit of both the countries. He said that security at entry and exit points of Majalis and processions should be ensured by police at any cost and metal detectors and sniffer dogs should be used for this purpose. He said that the whole nation is fully aware of the need of unity at this stage and we should make joint efforts for foiling the designs of anti-state elements, which could try to disturb law and order during Muharram. The chief minister directed that the campaign against encroachments should be suspended temporarily till tenth of Muharram after which it should be re-started vigorously and illegally constructed big plazas should be demolished without fear. However, he said that vendors and indigent persons should be shown leniency and persuaded to remove their encroachments. He said that assembly members should also politely impress upon the protesters against power and gas load-shedding that these problems are the result of the wrong policies of Musharraf and have been inherited by the present government, therefore, it is not in the interest of the people to damage public property.
