Four dead in new US missile strike

PESHAWAR - At least four persons were killed and two others injured as a result of suspected US missile strike against an alleged compound of Taliban near Laddha town of South Waziristan Agency on Friday. Taliban militants loyal to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan chief Baitullah Mehsud had established a compound in Government Girls Primary School in Maidan Naray village near Laddha. The compound was hit by two missiles at around 9.30 am. The attack resulted in the killing of four and injuries to two others besides destruction of the compound. The condition of the injured persons was stated to be precarious. The killed and injured included foreigners. Neither anybody had so far claimed the responsibility for the missile attack nor the government had issued any official statement in this regard. However, the missiles were allegedly fired by the NATO forces camping across the border in Afghanistan with the help of US drone. It may be mentioned here that it is the second continuous missile attack in the first two days of the New Year. Meanwhile, three gun-toting loyalists of TTP chief Baitullah Mehsud were injured as a result of an attack through an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which was reportedly planted by some unknown people on the roadside. However, the local tribesmen believe that IED was planted by Taliban who revolted against Mehsud and his associates.
