LAHORE – Police investigators are brutally torturing a businessman in the Shadman police station lock-up on the behest of a senior officer to ‘please’ an influential family, forcing the accused to settle a monetary dispute at their conditions.
Not enough, the investigators are seen traveling on the car of the accused besides using the iphone of the arrested businessman.
Police sources revealed on Wednesday that the investigation police Shadman headed by Sub-Inspector Abid Shah raided the residence of the accused Fateh Ali Tipu Sultan in plainclothes six days ago. The police investigators kept the accused in illegal detention for a couple of days and brutally tortured him.
Several plainclothesmen stormed into the house of the accused in the Iqbal Town area without prior warrants or warning. They took him along with them in his car besides torturing the accused in front of the family. The victim family immediately contacted the police emergency service (Rescue-15). “We thought that they had kidnapped Tipu for ransom. Therefore we immediately sought the police help,” a relative of the accused said. According to him, the police investigators are using the car and iphone of the accused illegally while pressing the accused to sign a stamp-paper as per their conditions and hand over the vehicle to the complainant.
Sources said the police registered a case (FIR No 564/12) under section (406 of the PPC) against the accused on the complaint of Dr Rehana Iftikhar Gujjar, said to be close relative of a senior police officer serving in Lahore.
According to the FIR, the accused person and the complainant are relatives and they had developed differences over some monetary dispute. The complainant lady approached the officer, who ordered his subordinates ‘accomplish the mission’ since the USA-returned woman wanted to teach a lesson to the accused. The investigators told the family of the accused that they were under immense pressure from the higher authorities. Thus, they are torturing the accused as per the instructions from the high command.
When contacted, In-Charge (Investigation) Shadman police station SI Abid Shah said that the accused had been arrested and being kept in the lockup after getting physical remand from the local court. He denied that the police are using the vehicle recovered from the accused person. Shah said on Wednesday that the accused would be produced before the court after two days.
The family of the accused trader said the influential woman wanted to extort the vehicle (LZF-2233) from the accused through police torture and using her connection in the police hierarchy.
According to the complainant, she had handed over the vehicle to her relative, Tipu, before leaving to the USA. She alleged that the accused is unwilling to return the car. However, the accused trader told the police that he is the owner of the car since he himself had purchased the vehicle.
