HAFIZABAD - District Officer (Coordination) Noman Hafeez said that the promotion of modern education was inevitable for the elimination of poverty, ignorance, unemployment and extremism.

While addressing the annual prize distribution ceremony at Al-Abbasi School System Kalianwala, he said that private sector was playing a pivotal role in the promotion of education in the remote area. Earlier, Al-Abbasi School System Principal Syed Najm-ul-Mustafa enumerated various achievements of the students in academic and co-curricular activities.

Later, the DO (Coordination) distributed certificates among the students who secured distinction. CM thanked: The Health Department employees from grade one to four have thanked the Punjab Chief Minister for meeting their longstanding demand and approval of health allowance of Rs1500 per month.

YOUTH BOOKED: The City Police have booked an 18-year-old fiendish youth namely Bashir Shah of Mohallah Khanpura on the charge of allegedly sodomising a 6-year-old boy of the locality. According to police source, victim Mujeeb was playing in the street when the accused Bashir Shah lured him away to a deserted place where he allegedly committed unnatural offence with him. The dwellers of the locality have demanded stern action against the accused.

RESCUE 1122 PERFORMANCE: Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) had responded to 4,706 emergency calls and provided assistance to 7,630 persons in the district during 2012.

Addressing press conference District Emergency Officer Sibghatullah that Rescue 1122 district office Hafizabad had received 1,00,273 phone calls during the outgoing year which included 1,983 road mishaps, 2,206 medical related, 171 fire incidents, 20 drowning etc and provided first-aid to 3,347 persons and removed 4,283 persons to different hospitals. He said that as many as 193 persons were killed in different mishaps during 2012.

He further said that average response time was 6.19 minutes. However, 95,567 calls were found bogus and unconcerned, he added.
