LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the law enforcing agencies to adopt every measure to ensure foolproof security for Hazrat Imam Hussain’s Chehlum to be observed today (Thursday).

Presiding over a meeting regarding security arrangements for the Chehlum Wednesday, the chief minister called for establishing four tiers security cordon around the Chehlum processions and majalis. The chief minister also warned strict action against those making provocative speeches, and wanted the authorities to ensure strict adherence to the timings of Chehlum processions. “The country is passing through a critical phase, as it is facing serious challenges of terrorism. There is a greater need of unity and solidarity in the society,” the chief minister maintained.

The chief minister directed the concerned authorities to take organisers of processions into confidence about the security arrangements, monitor processions and majalis through CCTV cameras, install search lights on the routes of processions, and switch on the generators in case of loadshedding during the processions.

Senior Advisor Senator Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa, Advocate General Punjab Ashtar Ausaf Ali, and the ministers attended the meeting that also imposed ban on pillion riding on motorcycles, in Lahore with effect from tonight at 12.00midnight.
