ISLAMABAD - Several liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) decanting outlets are operating in the capital in the absence of standard safety measures, putting the lives of citizens at risk.

A number of such gas shops in Bani Gala, Bhara Kahu and Khanna Pul areas are also operating without getting a licence. Although LPG decanting from one cylinder to another using electric motors is prohibited, the practice is ongoing due to absence of monitoring by the government.

An LPG sale point is only allowed to sell the gas in form of cylinders, but owners of LPG outlets often decant the gas, making it a dangerous trade.

This not only risks lives but also the property of people. A proper exhaust system should also be ensured at all LPG shops.

It is pertinent to mention that several incidents of cylinder explosions had been witnessed in the past while lives have also been lost in some incidents in this regard.
