KARACHI - The Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F), a faction of PML-Q and other opposition parties have rejected the suggestion of ruling PPP to amend the Sindh Peoples Local Government Act 2012, demanding complete repeal of it.PML-F General Secretary Imtiaz Shaikh while addressing a press conference at his residence on Wednesday said that the PPP had at least realised that this new local government law was discriminatory. The PML-F wants this black law to be completely repealed on immediate basis because this black law is an attempt to divide Sindh. PML-F general secretary said that the ruling PPP had contacted the PML-F and other opposition parties to make amendments in the local government law. “PPP’s offer for amendment in this law to pacify opposition is a conspiracy to support its badly damaged image among the masses of Sindh”, PML-F leader declared. He rejected the suggestion of ruling PPP and demanded for complete repeal of black law. PML-Q leader Shaharyar Khan Mahar, who also resigned from the provincial ministry and joined opposition benches, also supported the views of the PML-F leader.Shaikh said that his party will not bargain over the vital interests of Sindh at all on the instructions of PML-F chief Pir Pagara. PPP has caused harm Sindh province and laid down the foundation of carving out new province out of Sindh by imposing this black law, he claimed. He said government had planned for pre-polling rigging in elections 2013 and transfers, promotions and distribution of tenders were the part of the bribe being distributed to win upcoming elections through manipulated means. He demanded the government to immediately form caretaker government with the advice of all the stakeholders. He said that Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani has read the provisions of SPLGA at least and now condemning it. Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh advised all the ministers, including Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah to go through the SPLGA once so that they should also wake up. Agha Siraj has taken U-turn over the issue of Sindh Peoples Local Government Act 2012, which showed the endorsement of Pir Pagara’s stand against this black law, and victory of PML-F.Meanwhile, a delegation of Aurat Foundation on Wednesday also met with PML-F leaders Mehtab Rashidi and Imtiaz Shaikh and gave their recommendations to empower women and proposed to include their recommendations in PML-F’s manifesto for 2013 elections. PML-F leader Mehtab Akbar Rashidi welcomed their recommendations and said that PML-F chief Pir Pagara firmly believed in the empowerment of the women in social, economic and education sectors. She assured them of incorporating their agenda in party’s manifesto and showed her gratitude. Aurat foundation delegation comprised of Shireen Asad, Farida Tahir and Maleeha. PML-F’s parliamentary leader in Sindh Assembly Jam Madad Ali Khan, designated opposition leader in Sindh Assembly Mrs. Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, MPA Marvi Rashdi, MNA Jadam Mangrio, Ali Bux alias Pappu Shah, PML-F’s ladies wing leader Shama Munshi, Mir Muhammad Khokar, PML-Q leader Shaharyar Khan Mahar, Kashif Nizamani and others were also present on the occasion.
