As Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has named Maulana Samiul Haq as the government’s icebreaker in the proposed negotiations, the TTP has just looked the other way sticking to its old posturing of cold indifference.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, the group’s former spokesman said the TTP will issue a formal response later but that is the ‘standard operating procedure’ a standard way to spurn all the advances by the Nawaz-led government. He snubbed Maulana Samiul Haq who was having such high hopes, and even Maulana Fazlur Rehman who was always under the illusion that the TTP was just a call away. Both of them must now be considering living the life of a hermit, given how their lifelong illusion that they were the only fathers of Taliban has been debunked.

One doesn’t see anything wrong with that because that is what you can expect from individuals of such ilk, except that for the people of this country talks with them will be a kiss of death. Is the country ready for that? Certainly not! The government? A definite yes. So we should let it suffer bidding it Godspeed. Every sane person can see where the government is heading. Indeed where it will end up is already written on the wall.
